Broadmead Neighbourhood Overview
Broadmead is located east of the Patricia Bay Highway (Highway No 17), west of Blenkinsop Road, South of Cordova Bay and a 12-minute drive north of downtown Victoria.
Broadmead is a very unique neighbourhood of Saanich East. It’s built on a number of modest hills, is heavily treed and has many rocky outcroppings. Broadmead contains numerous green spaces and trails.
When Broadmead was developed in the 1970s and 1980s, a conscious effort was made to retain as much of the forest as possible. Restrictions were put in place to control various aspects of the housing. Exterior house and roof colours are to blend naturally with the environment. There are also minimum size restrictions. The result is an “earthy looking” neighbourhood of larger than average, fairly upscale homes on larger than average size lots.
While most of the housing in Broadmead is single family, there are also a generous number of townhomes.
Rithet’s Bog Conservation area is the last remaining peat bog on the Saanich Peninsula is located at the southern end of Broadmead and offers a variety of trails and opportunities for bird watching.
What We Love
Mature trees, large lots, the variety of stores in Broadmead Village that makes daily shopping a one stop shop and the flora and fauna that call Rithet’s Bog home. The family feel of Broadmead along with its close proximity to Victoria (only a 15 minute drive) as well as the ferries and airport make it an ideal location.
